This project is on the body, which involves measurement in relation to the body and body parts.
These fragments of clay I laid out in the shape of the measurement of my body, initial I had used these when I had made small cerebal like forms from a previous project.I had left the clay fragements in the form of the body for a few days then I began to expkore the idea of transforming it some more hence in a fit of pique I sprayed it red using red paint from a spray tube which was reckless and feckless moment of faustianism.
I began my initial drawing of my body on calico cloth, with the help of Helen and Gerry who drew my outline on paper on calico. Then both Michael and Sara suggested to do it myself rather than have other people do it, so I did.
These nail paintings, are a weight of my own nails over twenty years of nail growth calculated with the aid of computer science. Then I glued them on paper.
This is the outline of my body which I marked with chalk. I stripped off, I think to have or make a cathartic experience of drawing onself naked is rewarding. I Maria Callas playing in the background and for an hour I continuously drew my outline with chalk of various colours, continuously rolling and folding my body in different positions sometimes I tried to invoke a frenetic sense or movement to the experience almost to loose onself in a voodoo sense.
This I began to make from plaster of paris, however I realised that I laid it thinly which only works on the flat however I will use this in my next project which is about transforming the work we have made at the start of this project.

One week project on the body
This one week project is on the body , which should measure half our body size and reflect our personality or parts of our personality.
My response to this started with making cerebal parts out of clay which are suggestive of the brain yet not. This collection of clay I began by rolling them out , then intertwined them and then moulded them into one piece , which I then placed together linking them with wire .The idea that all thoughts are made in the brain ,come from the brain, our personality is formed in the brain , so hence this response and also considering that our bodies go back to clay I thought it rather apt.
My second response is a phallic one, the idea that the phallus is a governing action of which man is subjected to willingly or unwillingly , consciously or subconsciously in a Freudian way. I made an erect clay penis to explore the idea of how much man is governed by the phallus and the thought that creates.
My third response is a cube covered by yesterdays daily papers , the idea that all personalities exist on paper can be read about on paper, and can be analysed on paper ,with daily reports on paper of all the human conditions that exist and that make our world as we are.
My fourth and final piece is a building mesh which I perforated with industrial bolts again the bolts representing thoughts and flashes of thought which form the personality and all housed in the mesh representing the body.

Sculpture semster 2
Having completed two one day projects on various sculpture artist , the brief being different on both but the underlying current similiar, whereby we were asked to put twelve artists on our blog and speak about them in relation to their work.
In my opinion of the Arts, Sculpture can have a tremendous well being on so many facets of our life.
If one looks at Anish Kapoor as an example , his work called Cloud gate or locally called the bean located at the AT, T Plaza in Chicago U.S.A. is a fantastic example how public Art can change public space, a whole city and all who visit it.
The Plaza finding its origins in the Greco- Roman society is an integral part of urban planning from the idealised city of Urbino in Italy to modern day shopping centres.
Architects of our modern day find much inspiration in the walled and planned cities of Italy , be they Medieval hilltop villages or larger cities like Siena in Tuscany where all facets of Cultural life come together in the Plaza to experince each other in social engagement and subconcious socialization is a fundamental part in the social and mental health of a society.
When I speak of subconcious socialization , which is a studied science of human behaviour, whereby according to various experts in the field, it is extremely important that we as humans from varoius social stratums share common spaces , the Plaza is essentially one big Sculptural space , where humans get to be visually aware of each other , sharing a common space , whilst simultaneously been apart , so what I hear you say , let me expand , by virtue of sharing common space, in this way, it subconciously helps to break down social predgudices , because according to scientist in this field , we get to view each other , and by that experince we are less likely to have rigid ideas or phobias of certain differences that exist between people who have never had that experience.
So largely in American cities people tend to live in architectural singleness by that I mean, all the one type of people in the same area , then another block of people in another suburb all contained within , so what has Sculpture got to do with all this, by creating public spaces but more importantly , by adorning them with inspiring Sculpture one can help to bring people together in a harmonious way and give in Sculpture a sense of the uniqueness and beauty of the human soul.
Two months ago a boy of fourteen years of age was shot dead at point blank range in a well to do Suburb of an American city purely because the man who shot him, percieved him to be a threat, the boy was walking home from the shop , Mr Zimmerman who has not been charged because under U.S. law one can defend oneself from a concieved threat, as he said, he had seen his type on T.V. a black kid with a hoody ,acting strangley .
I am of the opinion that public Sculpture as an art form, more than any other forms of art can transform both our public spaces and us as human beings who occupy them, on a visual level and a subconcious level and can be enjoyed by all peolpe in society no matter what social stratum one finds oneself occupying.
