Having completed two one day projects on various sculpture artist , the brief being different on both but the underlying current similiar, whereby we were asked to put twelve artists on our blog and speak about them in relation to their work.
In my opinion of the Arts, Sculpture can have a tremendous well being on so many facets of our life.
If one looks at Anish Kapoor as an example , his work called Cloud gate or locally called the bean located at the AT, T Plaza in Chicago U.S.A. is a fantastic example how public Art can change public space, a whole city and all who visit it.
The Plaza finding its origins in the Greco- Roman society is an integral part of urban planning from the idealised city of Urbino in Italy to modern day shopping centres.
Architects of our modern day find much inspiration in the walled and planned cities of Italy , be they Medieval hilltop villages or larger cities like Siena in Tuscany where all facets of Cultural life come together in the Plaza to experince each other in social engagement and subconcious socialization is a fundamental part in the social and mental health of a society.
When I speak of subconcious socialization , which is a studied science of human behaviour, whereby according to various experts in the field, it is extremely important that we as humans from varoius social stratums share common spaces , the Plaza is essentially one big Sculptural space , where humans get to be visually aware of each other , sharing a common space , whilst simultaneously been apart , so what I hear you say , let me expand , by virtue of sharing common space, in this way, it subconciously helps to break down social predgudices , because according to scientist in this field , we get to view each other , and by that experince we are less likely to have rigid ideas or phobias of certain differences that exist between people who have never had that experience.
So largely in American cities people tend to live in architectural singleness by that I mean, all the one type of people in the same area , then another block of people in another suburb all contained within , so what has Sculpture got to do with all this, by creating public spaces but more importantly , by adorning them with inspiring Sculpture one can help to bring people together in a harmonious way and give in Sculpture a sense of the uniqueness and beauty of the human soul.
Two months ago a boy of fourteen years of age was shot dead at point blank range in a well to do Suburb of an American city purely because the man who shot him, percieved him to be a threat, the boy was walking home from the shop , Mr Zimmerman who has not been charged because under U.S. law one can defend oneself from a concieved threat, as he said, he had seen his type on T.V. a black kid with a hoody ,acting strangley .
I am of the opinion that public Sculpture as an art form, more than any other forms of art can transform both our public spaces and us as human beings who occupy them, on a visual level and a subconcious level and can be enjoyed by all peolpe in society no matter what social stratum one finds oneself occupying.

Richard Long south bank circle 1991 .
Richard long has had a long and very rewarding career as an artist , who has explored sculpture through nature .He has made a long career starting with his paths a student , here his use of Cornwall slate made into a circle with the rough edges at the ends and the smooth part face up , gives this compostion a extremely textured feeling .He has installed his work on various locations around the world from the Andes to The Sahara.Sculpture or public Sculpture is so expressive of our most delicate nature it takes us beyond ourselves and presents back to us an image of ourselves , which is more questioning than we can imagine.
Josh Garber
Josh Garber , says that his sculpture is all about comunication between people and he often poses the question which he would ask of people here his pieces begin and where they end .
This si a fluid example of form taking shape in expression. And according to Garber that is what his work is about.

Jaehyo Lee.Organic wood Sculpture 350 .250.350.cm
Jaehyo Lee is a Korean artist who even while at art school received awards .He has made rather large wood organic sculpture from timber which have been placed in forests in different locations in Japan and America. To me this is so distintive of the asian spatial sense of design .It conveys that simple sensuality of design using from nature the supreme artist and recasting and re-forming and re showing the tonality of objects in a most compelling way that demands a fresh look or re take on a known object like timber and showing it in a way it has never been seen before or imagined and that is the compliment of the artist and this can been seen in the sensuality of the work of Jaehyo Lee.Spatial harmony, material harmony sublime textural relationship in a quintessential asian feeling.
Janet Echelman Sculpting Urban airspace 2011
Janet Echelman is another supreme example of creating a sublime masterpiece of what could be classed as banal fishing nets .She found the inspiration for these masterpieces while on a art sojourn to India .She would watch the local Indian fishermen cast their nets out from their boats, which in itself is like a visual opera , then re-developed that visual stimuli in Urban Air Space .The whole procedure invovled many technical aspects , lighting engineers , the textile people involved , the rigging , and this is another fantastic example of the extraordinary possibility of transforming public space , and simultaneously transforming human consciousness and is in a way a an important component to the human expierence .These public spaces that we as humans use to socialize in are an integral part of subconcious socialization , which is instrumental for the mental health of all society.By beautifying our public spaces , we the occupier become more beautiful .
